D&AD Success

26 April 2011

The D&AD results came in last week, and the news has been great for HND Visual Communication.
This year we have followed up our 2010 success with an InBook in Advertising for Abbie Macpherson and Jonny Paterson, HNC Graphic Design.

Abbie and Jonny worked on the Aviva brief - to create a campaign to help Aviva get 500,000 children from around the world off the streets and back into education.  As a measure of just how international D&AD has become, the winners in this category came from the USA, South Africa and Italy.

HND Illustration also produced an InBook for talented illustrator Dan Seex, who tackled the Diesel brief. Both sets of work will be posted up shortly.

A further boost came with a Yellow Pencil nomination in Open Advertising for former student Sam Ngai, who graduated HND last year and moved on to finish his degree at Edinburgh Napier. You can check out Sam's amazing visuals for Umbro on the D&AD website.

ETC Show 2011 Fundraising @ indiegogo

13 April 2011

Edinburgh's Telford College is again holding its End of Year Show at the Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh in June.

As well as open public viewing, we plan to hold a dedicated industry night where a select group of industry practitioners and potential employers will be invited to view the work on show and get talking to the next generation of designers, photographers and illustrators.

HND Graphic Design student Kay Cochrane has been hard at work organising a way to raise funds for the show. Kay has set up a funding campaign through IndieGoGo - check out the page for all the details - and please feel free to donate anything you can to help out!

NC Project Display

10 April 2011

The last day before the Easter break saw the NC Graphic Design groups present their 'Seven Deadly Sins' projects. They were tasked with designing banner visuals for a Waterstone's Bookshop season of themed titles.

The emphasis in this project was on illustration, and although each student had been asked to choose two sins to depict, many went further and created some fantastic visuals for all seven deadly sins across a range of media including banners, posters, tablet technology, editorial and packaging.

Gill and Ross Shortlisted for Marketing Award

7 April 2011

Great news today for HND Year 2, as Gill McColl and Ross Duncan were both shortlisted for the Marketing Society's annual Creative Student Award.

Both students passed the first stage of the judging process by submitting a written proposal for a campaign to raise the profile of Maker's Mark, the famous American Bourbon.

This is a major achievement - Edinburgh's Telford had only this year been invited to submit entries alongside Scotland's Art Schools and Universities, and the shortlist contains just six students drawn from those institutions.

Gill and Ross have been invited to appear in front of the judging panel on the 27th of
April, where they'll give a 30 minute presentation, followed by a 10 minute
Q&A session.

The final winner of the award will be announced at the annual Marketing
Society Star Awards on the 19th of May at Glasgow's Fruitmarket Gallery
- all shortlisted Creative Student candidates will be invited to attend
the ceremony as complimentary guests.
